Virtual General Counsel

Practical support across the full trademark lifecycle

Julie routinely works with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and the Copyright Office and provides practical counsel at every stage of the process. This includes preparing trademark and packaging risk assessments related to use and registration, monitoring portfolios to help ensure intellectual property is being used properly and effectively and advising clients on how to protect and strengthen their rights in the United States and abroad.

Enforcement, licensing and portfolio protection

The firm also negotiates and drafts licenses and other transactional agreements involving intellectual property assets, whether domestic or international. Julie develops enforcement programs and procedures that promote proper use of intellectual property and help clients police improper use by others. Just as importantly, the firm helps clients establish internal policies and practices designed to avoid conflicts and respect the intellectual property rights of third parties.

Anti-counterfeiting and border enforcement strategies

Julie also helps clients use US Customs and Border Protection as part of a broader enforcement strategy to stop counterfeit goods and parallel imports from entering the United States.

Trademark disputes

When disputes arise, Julie brings substantial experience in trademark enforcement and defense. The firm has handled trademark disputes involving a wide range of products and industries, from toys, auto parts and car-top carriers to erosion control products, woodworking machinery and kitchen appliances. Julie has also handled hundreds of contentious trademark matters before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.
